Our Mission Statement

The NSHEA represents a growing number of families committed to quality education of their children at home.

The purpose of the organization is:

  1. to safeguard the rights of homeschooling families,
  2. to promote the awareness of homeschooling within the province, and
  3. to represent their interests at provincial and local levels.

We welcome your support in achieving these goals.

NSHEA is non-denominational and inclusive. It represents families that have a wide variety of reasons for educating their children at home and use many diverse methods to accomplish their goals.

As home educators we choose to work independently to educate our children.  Unification as a group is important so that we are kept abreast of changes in the province which might affect our ability and freedom to home educate. If we stands as a group we can make positive changes to home educating and be ready to take action if needed.  Organization is important in matters such as these.  The names of members are kept confidential and not shared with outside organizations.

The NSHEA is an inclusive group and represents all home educators supporting all styles and approaches to home education. For a small $20 annual membership we can be seen as one voice safeguarding the rights of all home educators in the province.

NSHEA uses it's membership dollars to maintain and update the NSHEA website, pay for our Association Registration through Joint Stocks, fund operating costs including group event and directors insurance, and to support the home education community at large.  We are a non-profit organization and all funds are used towards improving home educating in Nova Scotia.


Get involved!

We would love to have more people involved in the NSHEA, there are many small things that can be done to help out.  Attending events, organizing outings and getting involved in the home education community are ways that you can get involved.
