NSHEA MOM'S NIGHT OUT THURSDAY OCTOBER 20, 2011Despite the torrential rain that evening, several women braved the wet to sip coffee and chat. Lots of stories were shared and many laughs were had by the moms. As mentioned on facebook, the evening would have worn on much later than closing time at Chapter’s had the staff not been standing by the door to await our departure so they could go home themselves. We look forward to the next Mom’s Night Out later this month. NSHEA HOME SCHOOL DROP IN WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 12, 2011 On October 12th, Homeschoolers of all ages gathered at the Keshen Goodman Library to hear stories of Mi'kmaq culture and customs. We learned how to count to 10 in Mi'kmaq and the difference between a teepee and a wigwam. (A teepee is made of animal hide and a wigwam is made of birch bark.) Do you know which kind the Mi'kmaq used? We also learned that it was the woman's job to assemble these structures when the camp was moved. Kevin, the librarian, read us stories and told us about life and challenges faced by the Mi’kmaq. After the learning time, Moms and children had free time to mingle and get to know one another. It was great to meet some new faces, and see familiar ones as well. Watch for details about upcoming library events for Homeschoolers. NSHEA FAMILY DAY/ AGM 2011
Our first annual NSHEA Family Day/AGM was held in the beautiful Annapolis Valley at the Ross Creek Centre for the Arts on May 14, 2011. While our kids enjoyed wonderful workshops of puppetry and improv, the adults chatted and shared about the ups and downs in their homeschooling as well as resources that we found useful. A great turnout.
We look forward to our 2nd Annual Family Day/AGM in the Spring of 2012. Keep your eyes peeled for more information!
