Pause for Thought...

Every year the NSHEA meets with other provincial groups and the Dept of Education in Halifax to discuss home education  - the rights of the homeschooling, the requirements of the Dept of Ed. etc... This is  a small moment of time but I feel it is an important part of the role of home-school organizations.
Keeping communication open and remaining politically awake and visible are key components to staying alive and healthy as an organization.
While many of us are happy going to art classes, swim lessons, and small support groups it is imperative that even if large organizations are not your thing that you are aware of what is going on in your province, your country and in the world. There are modern countries such as Germany where homeschooling is outlawed, as well as in some of the states in the U.S.  While we enjoy the relative freedom of instructing and mentoring our children at home we must put into perspective that we have the right and freedom to home school today.  Together NSHEA, HEMS and HBLNS are working to insure that this right remains.
This is a wonderful time in the age of homeschooling for Nova Scotians: The current Director of Education, Alan Lowe is an advocate for home education.  There are support groups across the province for a variety of home-school styles, there is overlap in that people connect through more than one group or resource - to me it looks like a large 3-D Venn diagram with these spheres of beautiful colours and hues overlapping and mingling.

Join the NSHEA. Together we can represent a voice that ensures that homeschoolers are recognized, understood, and not overlooked as a vital and thriving community of people who put their children's education at the forefront of the priorities. If you do not wish to be a member of NSHEA I strongly encourage you to be a part of another large politically active and awake group such as HEMS or HBLNS.  Be a number, be a voice.
Matter.  Stay connected. Be visible. Be a part of the homeschool universe and make a difference.
